Platform2 Photography exhibition at Croydon Clocktower Cafe 6th-1st November 2010

A group of photographers will be displaying their work, inspired by their time volunteering overseas, as part of the Change Your World photo exhibition at the Croydon Clocktower Cafe between 6^th September-1^st November 2010.

The photographs, all by amateur photographers, were taken during their time on the government funded volunteering programme Platform2 in countries including Ghana, Kenya, Peru, South Africa, India and Nepal.

The exhibition, which has been touring the country, aims to highlight issues such as climate change, aid and sustainability faced by millions of people in the developing world, and features the best images taken by volunteers since Platform2 launched in May 2008.

One of the exhibition’s curators Jack Martin, 21, who volunteered in Ghana, August 2008, said: ‘I hope the photos inspire other young people, showing them how our trips abroad changed our world, and to make them aware of the issues out there in the developing world.

‘We need the younger generation to experience what Platform2 volunteers have, so we can make a change.’

Platform 2 is an programme funded by UKaid from the Department of International Development (DFID), which gives less advantaged young people living in the UK the chance to learn about global development issues such as poverty and climate change while volunteering in developing countries.

Wakeup Campaign presents swhop shopping in Battersea Arts Centre

Wakeup Campaign presents ‘Swhop shopping’. A social occasion happening for one weekend at the end of August held in Britain’s most influential theatre Battersea Arts Centre. People can bring in there old clothing and exchange them for others, all free!

In the Uk we throw away a staggering 1 million tonnes of clothes a year, 7.5 billion ends up in landfills so don’t throw it away, swhop it!

Wakeup Campaign has teamed up with brands such a People Tree, Izzy Lane, From Somewhere, Junky Styling and more to promote sustainability, recycling and ethical fashion.

The event will showcase clothing customisation- giving clothes a new lease of life in a creative way, clothes competition, cool products for sale, topped up with good music, drinks and nibbles.

250 people applied for the Big Leap Entrepreneurship Competition this year, Wakeup campaign got through to the final 10 and received 3rd place.

Absolutely ecstatic. For those who follow us and support the social enterprise thank you so much, without your support we would not get the award so its been brilliant. 3 months its been established but its going from strength to strength so thank you all :-)

Guys the Power dressing fashion show has been canceled...i know, bad times, but i've just been speaking to the organiser and fingers crossed something will be organised for the end off the year.

I just want to give a personal shout out, and say well done to everyone that helped and to my girl that thought of the idea to... put this together. A lot of obstacles and hard work has gone through to this, but not to despair, i have a feeling they will be back. :-)

Hey guys! So on the 27th April, Bar Risa on Broad Street (Birmingham) Platform 2 will be doing a fashion show charity event where all proceeds will go to Christian Aid. It should be an amazing event so try and go.

It's £5 a ticket in advance or £7 at the door, you get a free goody bag with every entry. There will be six fashion sets, UK street dance, prizes and raffle, live music, art gallery and much more. These are the amazing farmers in West Africa (Kasapin) that farm the most popular confectionery in the world...CHOCOLATE!!!

Come and join Wakeup Campaign this Saturday 10-6pm at Brixton Village Market. An interactive design workshop on the history and making of chocolate from the birth of chocolate (cocoa pods) to the chocolate bars we have on market today.

Story cubes and other fun methods to explain the history of chocolate so come and join the fun!

There will be opportunities to win free chocolate eggs :-)

The Sketchbook Pop-Up Shop will run for a limited period of 3 weeks following the launch of the second issue of Sketchbook Magazine. This community driven project offers visitors a chance to interact with a series of Sketchbook’s contributing guest bloggers, artists, designers, illustrators and editors who are all key figures in the contemporary fashion and arts community. These guests, including Sketchbook’s covergirl Susie Bubble, will be holding scheduled educational workshops, lectures and panel discussions, which will be digitally streamed through an interactive live thread.

Platform 2 is sponsoring this event so come and check it out! 18th April 2pm-5pm there will be be an area to brainstorm ideas, doodle, sketch, create and work on ideas regarding development issues.

You can do alot check out a brilliant program called Platform2 Platform2 is a global volunteering scheme for 18 to 25 year olds who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to visit a developing country and get involved with global issues of injustice and poverty.

Launched by SWAY, Platform 2 is an amazing opportunity check it out!!

Hello everyone and welcome to Wake-up campaign!

Wake-up campaign is striving for equality, development and sustainability in
developing and developed countries. The aim is not to dictate or force development issues onto people, instead, it is to raise awareness by stimulating and awakening people visually and to develop people’s social conscience.

One doesn’t have to be a millionaire nor a celebrity to help people suffering in the
developing or developed countries. One should not wait until a catastrophic event before helping, different things can be done, and they can be done now.

So how can YOU help i hear you ask? well begin by coming down this Saturday to Brixton Village Market 10-5pm and be transformed into an African King or Queen. Your picture will be emailed directly to you and all for £1.

Brixton Village Market is amazing, eclectic music a variety of cuisines and amazing multicultural area!
